✅ Passed Advanced Data Management (D326)

A couple of weeks ago, I passed my Advanced Data Management class and it was actually pretty easy in comparison to other classes I’ve taken this term. If you’ve taken the first Data Management class at WGU (D427), then you’re already equipped with most of the things you’ll need for D326.

D326 is mostly about more advanced SQL functions and techniques used for leveraging data to solve a business question. Specifically, the course will grant you access to a PostgreSQL database to play around in. You will be using pgAdmin for most of this, which allows you to interact with the database.

The performance assessment task is made up of two things:

  • A written document with a business idea and a list of questions you need to answer (follow the rubric and be specific with each of your answers).
  • A Panopto video of yourself explaining your SQL code on the virtual environment that holds the PostgreSQL database. You will use WGU’s browser tool for this recording.

Once both things are done, you have to submit them both in the assessment page.

If you just want to get through the course fast, then you will need to have familiarity with basic SQL syntax, how to run queries, and create (as well as JOIN) tables. These are the things that you should already know how to do before taking this course.

The new things you will learn in D326 are these:

  • Functions
  • Triggers
  • Stored Procedures

I recommend watching a Udemy course on these concepts or taking time to look for good YouTube tutorials explaining them. Once you’ve mastered these three topics, you are ready for the performance assessment!

Make sure to read the rubric and follow each guideline to the letter. When it says to choose two tables in the report, make sure that you also specify the columns in those tables and how they will be used. For the Panopto video, make sure that you have everything written down already in the virtual environment in pgAdmin before you start the recording.

I highly recommend the following video:

D326/D191 Performance Assessment Information

This goes into detail about what the performance assessment is about. I think the instructor did a really good job of laying it all out for the student to succeed. You can always get additional information and guides via email simply by emailing your instructor and asking them for links or additional material to help you succeed with the course.

I hope this helps!
